United States Capitol
The United States Capitol, located in Washington, D.C., is the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. Situated at the eastern end of the National Mall, it serves as the meeting place for both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives. The building is renowned for its iconic white dome, which is topped by the Statue of Freedom, a bronze figure representing liberty. Construction of the original building began in 1793, and it has been expanded several times over the centuries to accommodate the growing needs of the government. Its design, heavily influenced by classical architecture, was intended to reflect the ideals of democracy and the endurance of the American republic.
