South America
South America is a continent that is completely closed by mountains on one side. The bottom of South America looks like the horn of an animal. In South America are countries such as Argentina, Suriname, Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Chile.
A Wikimini foundator called Laurent Jauquier (Lorangeo) has visited Brazil.
Important places
- The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest on earth. Fascinating animals such as armadillos, giant ant-eaters and boa constrictors live here.
- All animals on the Galápagos Islands are protected, including giant turtles, iguanas and seabirds with blue legs.
- The Inca Indians built the city of Machu Picchu a long time ago, high in the mountains. Parts of the buildings and the city wall have been preserved to this day and attract many tourists
- The city of Rio de Janeiro is known for its beautiful beaches and colourful festivals.
- The Andes Mountains form the longest mountain range on earth. Some mountains of the Andes are volcanos that are still active.
Animals
There are a number of animals that (almost) only occur in South America. These are the quetzal, the jaguar, the armadillo, the whale shark, the sloth, the puma, the tapier and the orca.
