Netherlands

The Netherlands (English: Holland, Oranda) is a kingdom located in northwestern Europe, consisting of the mainland of the Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands. The mainland of the Netherlands is located in the delta of the Rhine and Maas rivers facing the North Sea, and its capitals Amsterdam and Rotterdam are trading ports with Central Europe as their hinterland, and have flourished as centers of international commercial activity. About a quarter of the country is below sea level, and the land is surrounded by dikes and sand dunes, and horticultural crops and dairy farming are carried out on agricultural and pasture land reclaimed by irrigation. As of 2016, the total area of ​​the country is about 37,000 km2, with a total population of about 16.98 million people.

In industry, the main production areas are petroleum refining, chemicals, steel and metal products, and electrical machinery. Natural gas is produced in the northern lowlands and the North Sea, and energy self-sufficiency is close to 100%. Due to its history as a former colonial power, processing of food products such as sweets and jewelry is also thriving. In the 2000s, there was a shift from agriculture to industry, and as of 2015, the primary industry population was 2.1% and the secondary industry population was 15.2%. The unemployment rate in the same year was 7.0%, which was somewhat high.

The political system is a constitutional monarchy, with King Willem-Alexander as head of state. Political parties tend to be small and often form coalition governments. The country is a member of NATO and the EU.

The official language is Dutch. Approximately 85% of the population is of European descent (80% are Dutch ), with approximately 15% being immigrants from Indonesia, Turkey, Suriname, Morocco, etc. (as of 2010). In terms of religion, approximately 50% are Christian, and approximately 42% are non-religious (as of 2006).
