Kendrick Lamar Duckworth is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer born on 17 June 1987 in Compton, California. Rising to prominence in the early 2010s, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential and technically gifted hip-hop artists of his generation. Known for his complex, narrative-driven lyrics and his exploration of themes ranging from systemic injustice and mental health to fame and identity, he has fundamentally shaped modern rap. He first gained major attention with his 2012 major-label debut good kid, m.A.A.d city, which was followed by critically acclaimed works such as To Pimp a Butterfly and the Pulitzer Prize-winning DAMN. Over his career, he has achieved significant commercial success and holds the record for the most Grammy wins by a rapper. In 2024, he released his sixth studio album, GNX, which received widespread acclaim for its reinterpretation of the West Coast hip-hop sound and produced several chart-topping singles.
