Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality born on 25 October 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. Raised in a conservative religious household, she began her music career singing in church before moving to Los Angeles to pursue pop music. She achieved global superstardom in 2008 with the release of her breakthrough single "I Kissed a Girl" and her album One of the Boys. Known for her colourful aesthetic, high-energy performances, and anthemic pop songs, she has become one of the best-selling artists in history with massive hits including "Firework," "Teenage Dream," "Dark Horse," and "California Gurls." In recent years, she has also been a prominent television presence as a judge on American Idol and has continued to evolve her sound, most notably with her 2024 album, 143. Outside of music, she is an active philanthropist, working as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and running her own charity, the Firework Foundation, which provides arts access to youth. As of June 2026, she is highly active in the public eye, having recently premiered her concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour - Live In Paris, at the 2026 Tribeca Festival. She is also currently preparing for a series of summer concert dates across Europe, including a performance at the Werchter Boutique festival in Belgium on 27 June 2026.
