Kamala Harris
Kamala Harris is an American politician and lawyer who served as the 49th vice president of the United States from 2021 to 2025. Born in California in 1964 to immigrant parents from Jamaica and India, she studied political science and economics before becoming a lawyer. She began her career as a prosecutor and later held several major roles in California, including district attorney of San Francisco and the state's attorney general. In 2017, she became a U.S. senator representing California, where she gained national attention for her sharp questioning during government hearings. She was chosen by Joe Biden to be his running mate in the 2020 presidential election, becoming the first woman, the first African American, and the first South Asian American to hold the office of vice president. As vice president, she played a key role in the administration's work on issues like voting rights, abortion access, and economic investment. In 2024, she became the Democratic Party's nominee for president, though she was defeated in the general election.
