The same word can sometimes refer to different things. An example of this is the planet Mars and the god Mars.

When this happens in Wikimini, you can create an orientation page.

Principle of the orientation pages

The purpose of an orientation page is to list different possible significations of a word and to lead towards the concerned articles.

Example of orientation pages

Example with the word "Mars" :

This orientation page shows you the concerned articles.

  • Mars : planet of the solar system
  • Mars : Roman god of war

Explaination : The first "Mars" is a link to the article "Mars (planet) », and the second one is a link to the article "Mars (mythology)".

Create an orientation page

Example with the word "Mars" :

  1. Create a page entitled "Mars".
  2. List the different significations by adding a link to all the concerned articles (even if some of these articles haven't been created yet).
  3. Insert the following code at the top of the page :
{{Orientation page}}

That's it ! You just need to save the page.

[-sMiLeY-] Advice: Orientation pages are there to orientate, not to define. Avoid writing too much text. Only the minimum !

Point out an orientation page

On the pages "Mars (planet)" and "Mars (mythology)", you can point out the existence of the orientation page by inserting the template "Other meanings".
