Reread and correct articles
The point is not to write in the children's place. But if you see a problem in a page, you can edit it.You can, for example :
- correct english mistakes (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.) ;
- make sure typographical rules are followed (capital letters, spaces before and/or after punctuation marks, etc.) ;
- reformulate wrong or inexact informations ;
- add elements to facilitate reading an unclear article ;
- organize a long article by adding subtitles before some paragraphs, or even entirely reorganizing the article ;
- add a short introduction for articles that don't have one yet (a regular introduction consists in 1 or 2 phrases to sum up key elements – ex. : "Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut born on the 5th of August 1930 in Wapakoneta and who died on the 25th of August 2012 in Columbus. He is best known for being the first man to walk on the Moon.")
- etc.
Watch recent modifications
A special page registers all recent activities in Wikimini and reports recent changes added to the encyclopedia :
This page allows you to keep an eye on the site's activity and to spot eventual inappropriate content.
Other histories are also available, you can even follow them. (Learn more).
Link articles
A particularly interesting and important aspect of Wikimini resides in the possibility of creating links between articles. This consists in including in the text, on a few chosen words, links towards other articles likely to be of interest for the reader.Imagine, for example, reading the following text :
Foxes are mammals belonging to the family of Canidae.
In this sentence, it could be interesting to add a link towards the "Mammal" article and another towards the "Canidae" article, wich would result in :
Foxes are mammals belonging to the family of Canidae.
This way, readers can directly access the articles "Mammal" and "Canidae" from the article they're reading.
This possiblility is not used enough by some contributors. Don't hesitate to add links to articles that don't have any yet. (How to do it?)
Illustrate articles
If you encounter an article that only contains text, don't hesitate to illustrate it. You can for example :
- add an image; (How to do it?)
- add a video; (How to do it?)
- add a link to an interesting site at the bottom of the article.
Encourage
Don't hesitate to use the discussion pages available on the site to encourage and advise children who participate in building the encyclopedia. You can for example :
- leave a message in their personal discussion page to congratulate them and thank them for their contributions;
- propose possible improvements in a discussion page associated with a specific article;
- lead children towards possible information sources.
Other remarks
It is important to emphasize that there aren't different types of accounts depending on the user's age. This information is not asked when creating an account.
