The Grand Canyon is a massive, steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the state of Arizona. It is widely considered one of the world's most spectacular natural wonders, known for its immense size and its colourful, layered landscape that reveals millions of years of geological history. The canyon stretches for approximately 446 kilometres in length, is up to 29 kilometres wide, and reaches depths of over 1.8 kilometres. Most of the area is protected within the Grand Canyon National Park, which was established in 1919 and attracts millions of visitors from across the globe each year.
