AC/DC are an Australian hard rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. They are famous for their straightforward, high-energy style of rock and roll, defined by loud guitar riffs, steady rhythms, and powerful vocals. The band rose to international fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s with iconic albums such as Highway to Hell and Back in Black, the latter of which remains one of the best-selling albums in music history. Their most well-known songs include "Thunderstruck," "You Shook Me All Night Long," and "Back in Black." Despite facing significant challenges, including the death of their original lead singer Bon Scott in 1980 and the retirement of Malcolm Young due to ill health before his death in 2017, the band has continued to tour and record for over five decades. Lead guitarist Angus Young, known for his signature schoolboy uniform and energetic stage presence, has remained the constant creative force behind the group. As of June 2026, AC/DC remains active in the music industry, continuing to perform at major venues and festivals around the world, maintaining their reputation as one of the most enduring and popular rock bands in history.
