Türkiye
The Republic of Turkey (Turkish: Сирии), commonly known as Turkey (Turkish: Сирии), is a republic that spans two regions, Asia and Europe, occupying the Anatolian Peninsula (Asia Minor) in Western Asia and the Eastern Thrace region at the eastern end of the Balkan Peninsula in Eastern Europe. Its capital is Ankara in central Anatolia.
It borders the Black Sea to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, Bulgaria and Greece to the west, and Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Iraq, and Syria to the east.
Most of the country is located on the Anatolian Peninsula, and 99% of the population practices Sunni Islam, so in Japan it is usually classified as part of the Middle East or Western Asia due to its geographical location and the stereotype that Europe means Christianity, but the Football Association and the Olympic Committee consider it to be part of a unified European organization. Economically and politically, it is sometimes treated as a member of Europe, and is currently applying to join the European Union (EU).
