An incandescent lamp is an electric light source that produces light by heating a thin wire filament until it glows, or becomes incandescent, through an electric current. The filament, typically made of tungsten, is enclosed in a glass bulb filled with inert gas to prevent oxidation and ensure longevity. While simple and producing a warm, high-quality light, incandescent lamps are inefficient, converting only about 10-15% of their energy into visible light, with the rest being dissipated as heat.
