Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is a massive concrete wall built across the Colorado River on the border of Nevada and Arizona. Constructed between 1931 and 1936, it was designed to control flooding, store water for farming, and generate electricity for the American Southwest. Standing 221 metres tall, it was the largest dam in the world when it was completed. It created Lake Mead, which is now the largest reservoir in the United States. Today, the dam is a famous tourist landmark and an essential part of the region's water and power supply.
